Electronic Arts will launch a new Star Wars Battlefront in holiday 2017 complete with a brand new single-player campaign, story mode.
Speaking during the publishing giant’s Q3 financial briefing overnight, EA’s Andrew Wilson promised an even bigger experience this time around for the upcoming sci-fi shooter, with more information planned in the coming months. What’s more, Star Wars Battlefront 2 is a collaboration between DICE, Criterion, and Motive.
"We’re thrilled to bring a new Star Wars Battlefront game to fans worldwide in 2017 holiday season," said Wilson. “Our next Star Wars Battlefront will be even bigger, taking players into more locations and allowing them to play with more heroes and characters across multiple Star Wars eras.”
"There will be new ways to play, including an all new single-player campaign and much, much more that we are excited to share with our players in the months ahead."
Star Wars Battlefront was released in fall 2015 for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. The game features large-scale multiplayer battles featuring a variety of Star Wars characters such as Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Emperor Palpatine. Despite its sumptuous visuals however, the game was heavily criticised for its lack of single-player campaign, which thankfully EA has now rectified.
Despite the game’s criticism, Star Wars Battlefront was a commercial success, shipping over 13 million copies worldwide. The game also received a PlayStation VR mission titled Rogue One: X-Wing.
