Star Wars Battlefront 3 Reportedly Could Happen As Disney Eyes EA DICE & Bungie As Possible Devs

Disney is reportedly looking at two developers to get Star Wars Battlefront 3 off the ground — EA DICE and Bungie. That’s at least according to Electronic Gaming Monthly’s Kickstarter-backed issue 265, which features contributions from ex-staff members and its Quarterman rumourmonger.

The Kickstarter is part of the EGM Compendium campaign, which launched with a goal of $250,000 and ended up crossing $1.7 million in 2024, securing its multiple stretch goals in the process. The new issue of EGM features numerous rumours, but one that hasn’t yet to come to fruition is a report on Star Wars Battlefront 3. Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb shared the details in the latest Game Mess Mornings:

“Disney has big plans for the Star Wars Battlefront series,” commented Grubb, reading from the rumour page of the new. EGM. “Recognizing how EA’s Battlefront 2 has sustained popularity that other Star Wars media could only dream of […] you’d think they’d green light Battlefront 3 toot sweet.”

The suits at Lucasfilm have been aggressively deploying probe droids looking for a development partner to take on the task of creating a follow-up. So far, no one has fully stepped up, but yours truly is hearing two major game studios are circling the project like a couple of snow speeders, led by the completely unsurprising EA DICE, who we can hope learn from their loot box lesson. There is another. The Qman hears that if the Force is not entrusted to DICE, it could land at none other than Halo, Destiny, and Marathon developer Bungie.

Star Wars Battlefront originally started out life during the days of the PS2 with two critically acclaimed titles releasing in 2004 and 2005. Free Radical Design’s Steve Ellis revealed years later that a third Star Wars Battlefront game was “pretty much done” around 2008, but was ultimately scrapped as LucasArts was unable to “spend big” on its marketing. A rebooted series launched in 2015 and Star Wars Battlefront II followed in 2017, which is to date the latest entry in the series.
