The time you have waited for is finally upon us, young Padawan. Yes, DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront, the reboot of the much-loved sci-fi shooter franchise, has finally graced store shelves in the U.S. for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One, with Europe getting the game this Friday. As one of the most anticipated games of 2015, Battlefront has a lot of hype riding on its shoulders, least of all because fans are eager to find out if it can possibly capture the sheer brilliance of its predecessor. Plus, the Star Wars series has had a patchy history on consoles as of late, and with the upcoming The Force Awakens almost upon us, Star Wars hype has well and truly reached fever pitch around the globe.
Unlike the previous Battlefront games, this latest incarnation of the series eschews the single-player component in favour of massive multiplayer matches, the largest of which can accommodate up to 40 players. Stepping into the boots of either a Rebel or Imperial trooper, you’ll travel to the likes of Hoth, Endor, Sullust, and Tatooine to engage in huge firefights against your enemies; not only that, but you’ll also be able to control the likes of Darth Vader and Han Solo if you’re lucky enough. Those of you who played the beta will know what to expect, but how does the final game shape up? is The Force strong with Star Wars Battlefront? Or is it just another scruffy nerf herder?
The critics have spoken, and we’ve included our roundup below. If you’re wondering where our review is, then fear not: we’ll have something up in the near future. Regardless of the scores, it looks like EA won’t be retiring the Battlefront franchise any time soon. Oh, and if you’re experiencing issues with the game on PS4, then know that Sony is busy looking into the problem.
