It really was just yesterday that UK-based VR studio XR Games announced that it has a new game coming later in October with Starship Troopers Continuum.
Today, rather than continuing the excitement about a coming game, employees of XR Games have taken to LinkedIn (as spotted by GI.Biz) to reveal that as many as 72 employees are at risk of losing their jobs.
The layoff is part of a restructuring, according to those who’ve taken to LinkedIn, though the studio itself has yet to make an official statement.
“Multiple redundancies (72 to be exact) are taking place at the company. I know the games industry is hard at the moment but I also want to give support for all my colleagues, they’re some of the most talented people I’ve ever met so please keep your eye out for them!” wrote QA lead Tamara Whymark.
It’s always unfortunate to see more layoffs hit the industry, especially in this case where XR Games is weeks away from its next big release.
