SteelSeries headsets for PS4 revealed, available July 29

Well-known PC accessory manufacturer SteelSeries will be introducing a new lineup of headsets compatible for the PlayStation 4 releasing on July 29.

From left to right: Siberia P100, Siberia P300, Siberia P800

At the high end is SteelSeries’ flagship model: the Siberia P800 ($299.99), a wireless headset featuring Dolby Digital 7.1 surround sound and lag-free audio by continuously hopping between signal frequencies before interference happens. Conveniently included with the headset are two 20-hour lithium batteries, allowing you to always have one charged up and primed to go when the other drains out. Changing settings and audio equalizer can all be done with the buttons on the headset, with visual feedback provided by the wireless transmitter’s OLED display.

From the brief time I used it at a private meeting a few weeks ago, the P800 performed well, delivering nice, clear sound quality without any noticeable audio delay. The headset felt comfortable to wear thanks to its memory foam ear cups. I’m used to the larger displays of proper surround sound receiver so I found reading the one on the wireless transmitter to be a bit difficult from a distance–such is the trade-off for a compact form factor.

For those looking to spend less, the Siberia P300 ($99.99) provides comfort via a suspension head band and similar memory foam earpieces as the P800, all while outputting decent stereo sound from my experience.

The Siberia P100 rounds out the lower end at $49.99 providing basic stereo sound and lightweight comfort with its mesh ear pads.

All three headsets are currently available for pre-order on Amazon.com, launching on July 29.
