Developer Ryu ga Gotoku Studio has released a new 12-minute gameplay trailer for upcoming action-adventure romp Stranger Than Heaven.

Serving as a prequel to the Yakuza (Like A Dragon) franchise, Stranger Than Heaven follows Japanese-American outcast Makato Daito, who finds a new life in Japan and depicts his journey across a 50-year period. As such, players will experience five different eras, including 1915 (Kokura, Fukuoka), 1929 (Hiroshima), 1943 (Minami, Osaka), 1951 (Atami, Shizuoka), and 1965 (Tokyo, Shinjuku).
The game crucially depicts the origins of the Tojo Clan at the hands of Daito himself, a major yakuza organisation that serve as the beating heart of the Like A Dragon series across its various titles. In addition, Stranger Than Heaven also includes characters such as Orpheus (Snoop Dogg), Suzy Day (Tori Kelley), Takeo Godai (Takaya Kuroda), and Amaru (using the likeness of the late Tupac Shakur).
Stranger Than Heaven launches for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S on January 15, 2027.
