Olivier Richters, the actor who portrays Zangief in the Street Fighter movie, has addressed his lack of screen time in the film by promising we’ll see more of the character in the next movie, as himself and the rest of the cast have signed up for a total of three movies.
The actor was responding to a video complaining about Zangief’s portrayal in the film by YouTuber Top Hat Gaming Man, where he made it clear that we were only mean to see a glimpse at the character to leave fans wanting more.
When they asked me to play Zangief, it was all very clear. There was one goal: show a glimpse of Zangief and his power, so we all want more. All actors, including me, signed for 3 movies. If a sequel is made, Zangief will shine was the promise. Apart from that, you can’t expect from a 2-hour movie with so many characters for everyone to shine in the first part. But anyways, thanks for wanting to see more of Zangief.
Keep in mind that Paramount Pictures has not officially confirmed that a second or even third Street Fighter movie is happening, but it appears that’s the plan if the cast have signed on for more films. Furthermore, Kitao Sakurai, the director of the movie, previously stated that Street Fighter 2 is something that “we’re thinking about and developing.”
Street Fighter was released in cinemas on October 16 and has so far grossed nearly $80 million worldwide on a budget of $82 million, so if there will be a sequel, it looks like the film has got a bit more work to do at the box office.
