Sony Corporation bigwig Sir Howard Stringer has dismissed pressure from publisher’s calling for a PlayStation 3 price cut, referring most notably to recent comments from Activision CEO, Robert Kotick.
Kotick controversially said last month that his company may cease support of the PS3 in the next year or so if Sony failed to slash the machine’s price. However, Stringer remained undeterred by the executive’s comments, telling Reuters: "He likes to make a lot of noise.”
"He’s putting pressure on me and I’m putting pressure on him. That’s the nature of business."
Quizzed on whether he felt it was logical to maintain prices at their market-high levels in the current economic climate, Stringer responded: "I (would) lose money on every PlayStation I make – how’s that for logic?"
On the subject of economic recovery, however, Stringer remained somewhat hopeful, adding, "I see green shoots but it’s a very light shade of green," stating, "It’s very hard to tell whether this is just a minor trough on the way to recovery or a trough on the way to a trough."
