Sony Computer Entertainment America has indicated that there may be less pressure on the company to lower the price of its PlayStation 3 console in the near future, as a result of strong sales of the 80GB unit in the US.
Speaking to Reuters, SCEA’s Vice President of Product Marketing, Scott Steinberg, commented: “We’re seeing that the hard-core gamer is not afraid to throw another $100 at the PS3 because the value proposition is so rich.”
"We’re still in the phase of studying what this means for the potential roadmap for the year,” Steinberg continued.
When prompted to comment on whether this meant that any pricing pressure might not materialise, he replied, "It’s leading us to think so.”
“The year of the PS3 started in fall 2007, I think it will be an extended year. We are feeling positive momentum."
