Stunning new Bloodborne screenshots will blow your mind; menacing Chalice Dungeons also detailed

Fresh on the heels of the jaw-dropping trailer released just over a week ago, developer From Software has whetted gaming appetites even further by unleashing a barrage of mesmerizing screenshots for its upcoming PS4-exclusive, Bloodborne.

The screens, seen below, detail some frankly stunning – and ultimately menacing, we presume – characters, all baying for our hooded protagonist’s blood. None more so threatening than the massive hellhound-crossed-with-a-dinosaur beast who will undoubtedly cause gamers’ endless frustration – a testament to Bloodborne’s punishing gameplay, no doubt.

Aside from the enemy design the screenshots also delve into some of the more varied locale afforded to the game, with a dank, contorted swamp taking centre stage. Not only that but a gothic Resident Evil 4-esque cathedral is also featured, with our main character perched above.

Of course, each of these screenshots are taken from the game’s newly-announced ‘Chalice Dungeons’ mode, where gamers get to explore a set of ever-changing dungeons containing a whole manner of beasts – not least the ‘Protector Ritual Masters’, who stalk you throughout the quests.

Speaking on Sony’s U.S. PlayStation Blog, Producer Masaaki Yamagiwa explains the new mode by saying, ‘’Hunters brave enough to make their way into the ruins will have to navigate through places like dreadful oily swamps and intricate, gothic, grand halls. But beware, not everything is as it seems. Whoever, or whatever, created these ruins did not want visitors; deadly traps, like these giant guillotine blades caked in blood of hunters past, could be anywhere.’’

‘’By using holy chalices, players can enter these dungeons and explore the vast structures and multiple levels. However, every time a portal is opened up, the structure of the dungeon itself changes. These dungeons are filled with traps, nightmarish creatures, and of course rewards for brave and skilled hunters to claim whether they complete them on their own, or with the help of other hunters online.’’

He surmises: ‘’Chalice Dungeons add a ton of additional content and replay value to the depth and richness of the full game itself, and can even be uploaded for other people to try out. Share your dungeons with your friends, or go online to find new Chalice Dungeons to explore. Even after you master the game, discovering all of the secrets it has to offer, there will be new challenges awaiting you.’’

Seems like an extremely welcome addition in our eyes – anything to prolong our time in the game’s fine by us.
