Super Mega Baseball Franchise Developer Metalhead Acquired By EA

Metalhead, the developer behind the Super Mega Baseball series, has been snapped up by Electronic Arts, as the publishing giant continues to expand its output of sports-related titles.

Metalhead will the EA Sports brand, where it will grow its existing IP and work on ‘new gaming and sports experiences for players worldwide.’

EA Sports’ executive vice president and general manager, Cam Weber, commented:

We’re all players of Super Mega Baseball, and we’ve long admired the work of the Metalhead team. It’s a unique and beloved franchise among sports gamers – the balance and depth of gameplay, and the unique style of the content, makes it super fun to play with friends.

EA SPORTS continues to expand, and we’re deeply excited to create more unique and interactive experiences that blur the lines between sports and entertainment.

EA Sports has been making a concerted effort to expand its horizons in recent months, with the likes of EA Sports College Football, EA Sports PGA Tour and the F1 franchise now under its belt. The latter comes as part of its acquisition of British studio Codemasters.
