Survey reveals 50 per cent of UK households own a games console

A survey commissioned by Deloitte’s Media & Entertainment practice has revealed that videogame consoles have taken up residence in 50 per cent of U.K. households.

The figure represents a notable increase in comparison to 2011, where 47 per cent of U.K. households owned a console.

The survey was conducted by an independent research firm in December last year, and covered 2,085 participants aged 14-75.

Getting down into specifics, 83 per cent of 14-17 year olds reside in a household with a games system, while the percentage for 18-44 year olds living in a household with a device drops to 60 per cent.

Unsurprisingly the decline continues as the age bracket increases. 52 per cent of 45-54 year olds reside in a household with a games platform, with the figure dropping to 21 per cent for 55+.

Furthermore, data reveals that on average, gamers purchase between four and five titles every year. 81 per cent of consumers make their purchase in physical form as opposed to digital.

Elsewhere, the survey revealed that 81 per cent of households in the U.K. own a laptop, while 65 per cent have a smartphone. 33 per cent possess a tablet and 26 per cent own a connected TV.

Significantly, only three per cent admitted to downloading a videogame illegally in the past six months.
