Bandai Namco has announced a new Sword Art Online game that was previously hinted at and serves as a follow-up to SAO: Hollow Fragment.
Sword Art Online: Lost Song is in development for the PlayStation Vita, as well as the PlayStation 3, and takes place in the fairy-heavy world of ALfheim Online, where the first season’s generally criticized second half took place. Like the previous SAO games, Lost Song will tell a new non-canon storyline.
The action RPG will see its release in Japan sometime during 2015. No word on a Western localization at this time.
Sword Art Online began as a Japanese light novel series by Reki Kawahara about gamers trapped in a virtual-reality headset MMORPG who can only escape alive by finishing the game. The popular 2012 anime adaptation aired on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block and is available on Netflix, Hulu and Crunchyroll. A second season is currently airing and streaming worldwide on Crunchyroll, Hulu and Daisuki.
