Take-Two Interactive has announced that it has terminated its publishing agreement with People Can Fly for the upcoming Project Dagger, an action-adventure IP that has been in production for more than two years now at the Bulletstorm creator’s New York team.
The good news is that People Can Fly is retaining the rights to the IP, and development will presumably continue while the studio shops around for a new publishing partner.
People Can Fly’s CEO, Sebastian Wojciechowski, commented:
I assume we will part on good terms, and I don’t see reasons why we couldn’t work with Take-Two on some other project in the future. We strongly believe in the Project Dagger’s potential and are now committed to continue its development within our self-publishing pipeline. The game is still in pre-production – our team is now focusing on closing combat and game loops and migrate from UE4 to UE5.

I’m conscious that this decision will add investments on us, but self-publishing is part of our strategy. Of course, we are not ruling out working with a new publisher if this creates a compelling business opportunity.
People Can Fly is pretty busy lately, as in addition to Project Dagger, the company has six other titles in the pipeline including Project Gemini with Square Enix, Bifrost and Victoria, Project Red (still in the concept phase), and two VR-based titles.
