Jason Schreier has claimed that Take-Two is currently only discussing the single-player aspects of Grand Theft Auto VI, so we shouldn’t expect anything about the next iteration of Grand Theft Auto Online when we get our ‘Extended Look’ later this month.
Speaking in one of his latest YouTube videos, the Bloomberg journalist stated the publisher is “only talking about GTA 6 in terms of the single-player portion, which will not presumably have recurring revenue.” He added that he doesn’t expect GTA VI’s single-player to have any form of micro transactions, but added Take-Two “are not planning to talk anytime soon about what the new GTA Online will look like and what that recurring spend will look like.”
In case you missed it, Netflix will be hosting ‘An Extended Look’ GTA VI late this month, and will later be broadcast on Rockstar Games’ YouTube channel.
Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch on November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but will only be available digitally — even the physical version is just a code in a box. Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick touched on this last week during a Q&A following the company’s latest earnings call that he believes “discs just don’t really make sense for the consumer,” noting that the publisher is “already a digital business.”
The decision to eschew a physical copy of GTA VI — at least at launch — has been met with heavy criticism online, including from CI Games boss Marek Tyminski, who stated that the move “feels unfair to studios still backing physical — and it’s accelerating the shift.”
