Tekken boss talks PS Vita

Tekken boss Katsuhiro Harada has said he’s very much interested in working on something for PlayStation Vita, though doesn’t have anything in the pipeline at present.

That didn’t stop him from musing over the possibilities that Sony’s latest pocket brick may bring to the Tekken franchise though, specifically the GPS functionality and how it could work with Ghost battles.

“We have so much Tekken at the moment … Even though there’s a list of things I would like to do, and Vita is one of them, it’s hard to do that at this point. But I’m interested in the hardware,” Harada-san told Eurogamer.

“… There are some ideas that interest me, such as the GPS feature.”

“There’s a thing in Tekken called ghosts where a certain CPU character will have a player-like name and will perform in a way a human opponent might. They have a ranking and everything.”

“So these ghosts, if you could perhaps leave your own ghost on a certain coordinate based on your GPS location, and another player, if they come to that location, they can battle your ghost or collect it or something,” he explained.

“That would make it interesting to go to different locations and meet different ghosts and collect them. That’s one thing that interests me.”

So, a standalone Tekken game may not see the light of day on Vita for a while, but Sony fans still have plenty to look forward to. Street Fighter x Tekken is coming along rather nicely indeed, and will be out for both PS3 and Vita with exclusive content.

Then there’s Tekken Hybrid, which bundles CG flick Tekken: Blood Vengeance with a HD remake of Tekken Tag Tournament on a single Blu-ray disc. Beyond that, we also have Tekken x Street Fighter and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 in the works.
