The producer of Namco Bandai’s Tekken franchise has expressed his desire to bring the venerable beat-’em-up to PlayStation 4 at some point.
Writing on Twitter (via Push Square) Katsuhiro Harada replied to a fan post regarding a potential next-generation port for Tekken Tag Tournament 2.
In response, Harada-san made it clear that he’s got his sights on a brand new entry in the fighting franchise. “I want to develop a new one for the PS4,” he said.
Tekken Tag 2 was released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2012, though no port has been announced — and from Harada-san’s comments, it’s unlikely to happen at all.
Of course, we still have the elusive Tekken x Street Fighter to look forward to, which was announced nearly four years ago alongside Capcom’s Street Fighter x Tekken. It’s not too hard to imagine that the game will now arrive on next-generation systems given how long it’s been in development.
Furthermore, Harada-san has hinted that he has two new projects to unveil this year, so Tekken fans should hopefully have reason to be excited as 2014 gets underway.
Tekken recently went down the Free-to-Play route with 2013’s Tekken Revolution, a PS3-exclusive brawler that allowed gamers to upgrade various attributes of their chosen fighter.
