Terminators: The Video Game has been officially announced by Reef Entertainment.
Based on the hugely-popular sci-fi movie franchise starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton, Terminators seeks to provide an ‘authentic and exciting’ experience for fans, and will be based primarily around James Cameron’s original 1984 classic and its sequel.
Details are being kept under wraps at present, though Reef confirmed today that it has snapped up ‘exclusive console video game rights’ for The Terminator and the ‘console and PC video game rights’ for sequel, Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
A spokesperson for the studio commented: “Here at Reef we are huge fans of 1984 & 1991 Sci-Fi action master-pieces.
“It’s an incredible opportunity and an equally huge responsibility to create a game that does great justice to the motion-pictures. We are studying all aspects and influences of the Terminator universe defined in Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. We have started on our journey and are drawing on all the diverse materials available to produce a high quality, authentic and exciting Terminator video game."
Platforms for Terminators: The Video Game have yet to be confirmed, though we expect to hear something sooner or later, possibly at Gamescom this week.
The Terminator franchise has had a patchy history in terms of video game output, ranging from the retro classics T2: Arcade and RoboCop Versus The Terminator, to the critically-panned Terminator 3: War of the Machines and Terminator Salvation.
