Today’s keynote speech at the Tokyo Game Show by Sony’s Kaz Hirai is now over. Hirai cited the importance of the ‘network’ in creating a successful gaming experience, and used LittleBigPlanet’s 2 million user-created levels as an example of how the network can enhance a game.
There were no major announcements during the keynote address, but he did indicate (backed up by a fast emailed press release from Sony) that the PlayStation 3 Slim has sold some 1 million units in three weeks.
He also briefly mentioned Sony’s plans for its motion controller, holding it on stage while it gleamed in different colors. There was no more specifics about the peripheral, but he emphasized it will be out in the spring of 2010.
One of the more interesting parts of his address was in describing what he’d like to see in future gaming experiences. He described this idea as “emotional input.” By using some sensors, he’d like to see a greater emphasis on the emotional state of gamers, perhaps tracking a player’s eyes or even sweat.
Meanwhile, Nintendo and Microsoft used the hour during Sony’s address to make news for themselves, including a Wii price drop and a list of publishers working with Microsoft’s Natal.
