The Blood Of Dawnwalker Director Says A Delay For Next-Gen Consoles Would Be ‘Better For Us’

The Blood of Dawnwalker director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz has argued that a potential delay for the next generation of hardware would be “better” for a studio such as Rebel Wolves, who are gearing up to launch the vampire-themed RPG this September.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Tomaszkiewicz was asked if the current cycle of hardware sticking around for longer would impact Rebel Wolves and its plans to grow The Blood of Dawnwalker into a franchise, to which he replied, “It doesn’t at all, and to be honest, it’s even better for us.”

Because when you have the game and you know the systems and the features adjusted to these particular consoles, you know what you need to do. Always, a new platform is a new challenge: you need to learn it, you need to know what are your borders, what you can do, what you cannot do. And also it’s an additional build you need to create that you need to take care of later.

Let’s say we have four builds and later on you want to deliver a patch for the players. You need to be sure that these changes work on the Xbox, on the PlayStation, PC one and PC two.

When you have next-gen, you’re adding an additional two builds, and it multiplies the amount of work you need to do. It sounds easy but you need to know that there is a group of testers who need to test every platform separately – not only this particular change but whether the whole game has no blockers, if you can finish it from the beginning to the end, and so on and so on. It’s a huge effort, to be honest, and if we work on the consoles we have right now, it’s easier, because we know how many builds we have and it’s easier to manage.

Chatter about the PS6 and new Xbox console has been doing the rounds for a few years at this point, with noted hardware leaker Moore’s Law is Dead believing the console is going to launch in late 2027. However, Sony’s news that it’s scrapping physical media production in January 2028 has all but confirmed that the PS6 will not include a disc drive, with analyst firm Ampere stating that the news means we won’t see the new console until 2028.

We also can’t mention without the topic of price. It’s been widely speculated that Sony’s new system will be an expensive piece of kit due to the rise in manufacturing costs, with insider Kepler_L2 recently claiming the Bill of Materials for PS6 is now around $960. As such, we may be looking at a scenario where the console will set gamers back $1,000.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is scheduled for release on September 3, 2026 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
