The Division beta has been extended on all formats

Ubisoft has announced that it has extended the closed beta for Tom Clancy’s The Division across all formats.

Originally scheduled to wrap up on January 31, the beta will now close its doors on Tuesday, February 2 at approximately 12.00pm CET/6.00am EST/3.00am PST. Unsurprisingly, the extension of the beta has been attributed to high demand among gamers.

Over the last few days, we’ve seen an incredible amount of excitement for the game, leading to many of you registering on the waitlist for a chance to join our Closed Beta,” commented Natchai Stappers, Ubisoft’s Community Manager, in a post on the official forums. “We’ve been working very hard to let as many players as possible join, while still maintaining a smooth experience for everyone.

Earlier today, we announced that we were now inviting as many players as possible from the waitlist, in addition to those who had guaranteed pre-order access. We’ve started sending invites, with priority given to those who signed up first."

In order to allow everyone who has access to fully enjoy the Beta, we’re happy to announce we’re extending the duration by 24 hours for all players.”

The Division is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on March 8.

Developed by Ubisoft Massive in conjunction with the industry giant’s Annecy and Reflections studios, The Division takes place in New York City, U.S., following the outbreak of a mysterious diseases on Black Friday. In just five days, the government collapses as the pandemic spreads, with supplies such as food and water cut off to survivors, resulting in widespread chaos.

Players form part of the Strategic Homeland Division (SHD), a specialised group who live seemingly ordinary lives but are given authority by the United States government to combat various threats caused by the disease, and help to get society back on its feet by whatever means necessary.

Ubisoft has said that the game’s Snowdrop Engine is squeezing plenty of juice out of Sony and Microsoft’s current-generation formats, and that trading may appear in the game at some point down the line. The game’s map is based on Manhattan and can be seen in full here.
