The Division game engine is maxing out PS4 and Xbox One, says dev

The SnowDrop engine powering Tom Clancy’s The Division is able to push PlayStation 4 and Xbox One hardware to the max, according to Ubisoft’s Creative Director, Magnus Jansen.

Speaking during an interview with EPNdotTV (via GamingBolt), Jansen commented, "With the SnowDrop Engine, we are able to get the max out of any platform. The PC is a super diverse platform, there are so many configurations and so many things you can have. You can have two or three monitors for instance so getting the most out of the platform means we have to support three monitors on the PC. We have to support bigger rendering settings, unlocked frame rate, we have to support multiple GPUs because that is the thing that platform.

"And for us, it’s a matter of pride, to be able to support everyone who invests money and they buy the game and allow them to make most out of their hardware. We are utilizing every tiny little cycles of all the platforms to its maximum That’s the sense of pride about not wasting people’s hardware."

The Division is scheduled for release worldwide on March 8 on PS4, PC, and Xbox One. The game’s PS4 beta will kick off on January 29.

Developed by Ubisoft Massive in conjunction with the industry giant’s Annecy and Reflections studios, The Division takes place in New York City, U.S., following the outbreak of a mysterious diseases on Black Friday. In just five days, the government collapses as the pandemic spreads, with supplies such as food and water cut off to survivors, resulting in widespread chaos.

Players form part of the Strategic Homeland Division (SHD), a specialised group who live seemingly ordinary lives but are given authority by the United States government to combat various threats caused by the disease, and help to get society back on its feet by whatever means necessary.

The Division has been in development for over three years now, and was first unveiled during Ubisoft’s E3 2013 press conference. Ubisoft has recently been talking up the game’s Snowdrop Engine, which is looking to produce some dazzling visuals in the final version of the game.
