A new report by Digital Foundry has revealed that The Evil Within 2 does not take advantage of PS4 Pro.
The Evil Within 2 PS4 Pro support is a no-show
The survival horror sequel, developed by Tango Gameworks, runs at a native 1080p on both of Sony’s consoles. As such, the visuals are identical on both PS4 and PS4 Pro, though this shouldn’t take away the fact it’s an impressive-looking game in its own right.
Elsewhere, Digital Foundry revealed that The Evil Within 2 frame rate is capped at 30fps. Fortunately, the PS4 Pro version hits this target at all times, while the original PS4 is prone to the odd dip now and then.
Meanwhile, the game’s larger environments result in fewer loading times, though texture quality can be patchy on occasions. Screen space reflections are also used throughout the game, which complements the game’s visuals significantly.
“There are no Pro-specific features included in this game. That’s right, The Evil Within 2 does not support the PS4 Pro at all. It is native 1080p on both consoles, with no additional visual benefits for owners of the newer machine,” says Digital Foundry.
The Evil Within 2 is now available for PS4, PC, and Xbox One. The game takes place three years after the original game, and sees protagonist Sebastian Castellanos battling through the world of STEM to rescue his missing daughter.
While the core gameplay remains unchanged, The Evil Within 2 does introduce some new ideas to the formula. Chiefly, environments are now bigger, allowing players to freely explore the world for valuable supplies.
