The latest issue of Game Informer has exhumed a grizzly new batch of details on Shinji Mikami’s The Evil Within.
There’s a lot of info to digest, so we’ve listed the most interesting tidbits below (via NeoGAF). The Evil Within is due out in October for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
-The game boasts a vast array of creatures, environments, and traps. At times, they seem randomized.
-The intro has been changed significantly from what we’ve seen in various demos and previews, including dialogue, execution, and pacing.
-Sebastian’s first encounter with an enemy draws parallels with Resident Evil’s initial zombie encounter. Only this time, it’s a human-like creature wearing a straight-jacked.
-The Evil Within’s first boss is known as The Sadist, a chainsaw-wielding creature who stalks you throughout chapter 3.
-There’s plenty of opportunity for choices in the game, with the action said to open up around the village stage.
-Players will encounter an invisible foe that possesses the body of a human and the head of an octopus.
-Game Informer feels the game is a combination of survival horror and psychological thriller.
-The game is comprised of 16 chapters, with the journalist beating the first five chapters in around 4-5 hours.
-"An exceptionally polished and well thought-out horror experience. It seems like a game that’s received heavy iteration in development to plot scares and to switch things up at the perfect times to make sure you’re never too comfortable. It brought back a flood of memories from Resident Evil and Resident Evil 4, only with a heightened level of terror that warps reality and made to mess with your mind."
