The Game Awards 2023 Raised Viewership 15% With 118 Million Livestreams

As to be expected, Geoff Keighley has published the viewership numbers from this year’s Game Awards event, and after last year, this year’s show is now the most watched show in The Game Awards decade-long history.

Viewership this year was up 15% over last year with 118 million livestreams, Keighley announced on Twitter.

This announcement wasn’t entirely surprising, as each awards show the last few years has been ‘the most watched Game Awards’ until the next show.

What will be more interesting to see is how next year’s numbers look. Of course there will still be plenty of announcements and teases that’ll make players want to tune in, but after this year it’s worth asking how many won’t bother.

More than in previous years, The Game Awards garnered plenty of controversy and criticism, with viewers calling out that while the show claims to be a night celebrating the industry and those who make games, it doesn’t even give them enough time to speak after winning an award.

Keighley was also criticized for not speaking on the layoffs which have devastated the industry with more than 9,000 people estimated to have lost their job due to layoffs.

With that in mind, attention turns to next years numbers to see if this year’s critics are still just as upset with the show as they are now.
