The Last Guardian cracks the U.K. Top 10, but it’s up against some stiff competition

Sony’s PlayStation 4-exclusive The Last Guardian has debuted at no.7 on the U.K. All Format Chart following its launch on December 9.

The long-delayed project, mastered by Fumito Ueda of genDESIGN, managed to beat first week sales of both ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, which were previously released on the PlayStation 2 back in 2001 and 2006, respectively.

Sadly, the game failed to match the success of Xbox One-exclusive Dead Rising 4, which entered the charts at no.5, two places higher than its 2013 predecessor. Still, the week was ultimately won by Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, which muscled its way back into pole position. FIFA 17, Battlefield 1, and Final Fantasy XV made up the rest of the Top 5.

The Last Guardian’s chart debut may seem something of a disappointment, although considering it’s targeting a more niche audience of gamers as opposed to the likes of Call of Duty and FIFA, it’s still a strong showing. It’s not as if Sony hasn’t been pushing the game either, as various ads have been doing the rounds online, TV, and print.
