The Last Guardian creator has set up his own studio

Fumito Ueda, the creator behind the PlayStation 4-exclusive adventure puzzler, The Last Guardian, has confirmed that he’s set up a new development studio named genDESIGN.

The new company was actually established last summer, and features developers who worked on Team ICO’s 2006 PS2 classic, Shadow of the Colossus.

Last summer, I started a small studio with some of my old collaborators to challenge myself and try something new,” Ueda-san said on Twitter. “Since last summer, I’ve been working from a smaller studio I formed with the original staff who helped make Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.

Together we hope to challenge our personal creative limits and the possibilities of what games can be, both with The Last Guardian and beyond.”

The Last Guardian was finally re-revealed at Sony’s E3 2015 press conference after enduring many years of development hell on PS3. The project will finally ship in 2016. Check out the latest screenshots here and why not give the box art a quick glance too?

Sony admitted that the game suffered from serious ‘technical issues’ back when it was a PS3 title, which resulted in the developers moving to PS4 back in 2012.
