The Last Guardian: Sony ‘working diligently on the game’

Speaking during an interview with Famitsu, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS) President, Shuhei Yoshida, confirmed that its development team in Japan is continuing to work “diligently” on The Last Guardian.

Yoshida-san told the publication (translated by Kotaku), “Development couldn’t be better,” before adding, “That might be a bit of an exaggeration. We continue to work diligently on the game, so please look forward to it.”

Developed by Team ICO, The Last Guardian is the brainchild of Fumito Ueda, the creator behind the critically acclaimed Shadow of the Colossus and ICO for PlayStation 2.

The boy-meets-griffin-beast adventure has suffered from an arduous and tumultuous development cycle, however, which has lead to rumors of its cancellation, and more recently, a shift to PlayStation 4.

Sony has continually denied reports that the game has been canned however, and insists it’s still bubbling away in Sony Japan’s development cauldron, despite the fact it’s been over five years since the title was officially announced at E3 2009.

The last we heard, the company was waiting for the right time to reintroduce the ambitious adventure romp.
