The Last Guardian: ‘we have to deliver,’ says Sony

Sony has stressed the importance of delivering with The Last Guardian following its re-reveal for PlayStation 4 at E3 2015 last month.

Speaking with GI.biz, Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS), said that pressure from fans was one of the main reasons for seeing the project through despite its many setbacks.

We have to deliver, we have extra pressure, and the team has too, but it’s a good pressure. The team is super happy,” Yoshida said. “That was a huge reason we continued. I strongly felt that this game has to be made and we felt we came so close, so we knew the game that Ueda-San had imagined and we really wanted to finish it.”

The Last Guardian was announced at E3 2009 as a PS3-exclusive, though development would encounter a number of issues over the next few years.

Despite plans for a holiday 2011 release, the game was delayed and Sony ultimately switched development to PS4 in 2012 amidst rumors of a platform switch and continued working on the game quietly until its re-reveal at E3.

The game is currently scheduled for a 2016 release, a launch window that Sony is ‘confident’ it can achieve. Check out the latest screenshots here and read our preview while you’re at it.
