The Last of Us Part 2 release date hinted at by composer

Renowned composer Gustavo Santaolalla has hinted at a possible The Last of Us Part 2 release date during an interview with an Argentinian radio station.

The Last of Us Part 2 release date still a few years off

Santaolalla, who worked on the score for the original 2012 title from Naughty Dog, suggested that the game may be released in 2019 for the PlayStation 4. Specifically, he noted that the team is aiming to have work on the game completed by that year.

It’ll be done in 2019 (laughs). No, I don’t know exactly when it will come out, but a project like this usually takes at least 2 years to make. I’ve been working on it now for about a year, and after my last concert at the 28th of October, I will be travelling to LA to keep working on the game,” he said.

Santaolalla noted that the 2019 date is just his personal estimate based on what he knows about the project. Naughty Dog has not yet confirmed an official release date for the title.

The Last of Us Part 2 was announced during the PlayStation Experience 2016 via a brief teaser trailer. Ellie will be returning alongside Joel, although this time we’ll be taking control of the potty-mouthed heroine, who is now in her late teens.

Naughty Dog has said that the central theme for the sequel will be hate, as opposed to the original, which centered on love.

It’s unknown what the story will involve, although it seems that Ellie is aiming is gunning for the Fireflies. This has lead fans to speculate that Joel may in fact be already dead at their hands, and Ellie is now looking to avenge his death.

The Last of Us Outbreak Day was recently celebrated by Naughty Dog, offering a new PS4 theme and other goodies.
