Microsoft and Obsidian have confirmed that the price of The Outer Worlds 2 has been lowered to $69.99 for launch, after previously stating that the sequel would cost $79.99 as a result Microsoft announcing a base price hike for its games at retail.
Speaking in a statement to Windows Central, a spokesperson for Xbox commented:
We’re focused on bringing players incredible worlds to explore, and will keep our full priced holiday releases, including The Outer Worlds 2, at $69.99 – in line with current market conditions.
Those of you who have already preordered the game at its original price point will be able to get a refund at your point of purchase, with Microsoft stating that some retailers will offer refunds from today. Last month, The Outer Worlds 2’s game director addressed the controversial $80 price point, stating that Obsidian doesn’t set the price of its games.

The Outer Worlds 2 sees players following the daring Earth Directorate agent, who must unearth the source of an alarming number of rifts that are threatening to annihilate the human race. Your mission leads you to Arcadia, which is home to skip drive technology, where your decisions will determine the fate of not only the colony, the whole galaxy.
The Outer Worlds 2 is pencilled in for release on October 29, 2025 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
