The PS3 is on the rise in North America

When Sony initiated the 40GB PlayStation 3 at a lower price in Japan, it was instantly received with great success. When November 2nd, came around, the Sony rolled the dice in North America to see if triumph will shine over the PS3 in the more dominant market.

Since then, the word has been that the PlayStation 3 is seeing great growth in North America since the addition of the 40GB PS3 model. However, Sony never officially came out and gave confirmation on the 40GB’s success in North America.

Most recently, Sony has revealed that sales of the 40GB and even 80GB models have “more than doubled” overall in North America. Highlighting on the exact numbers, Sony mentioned that the sales has increased by 192% in the top ten retailers in North America. This is all great news for Sony, but it must be noted that Sony should definitely increased the number of units shipped per month. In October, the Nintendo shipped 519,000 units of the Wii while Microsoft shipped 366,000 units. This is in comparison to the mere 121,000 shipped PS3 units.

Sony’s big plunge for success will come next month as the holiday season really heats up and consumers show their side of interest in the gaming industry.
