Sony has revealed during its latest financial results that the PS4 has shipped 113.8 million units worldwide following its release in November 2013. The news comes just weeks ahead of the highly anticipated launch of the PS5.
PS4 Shipments Hit Nearly 114 Million
The console reached the milestone during the three-month period ended September 30, 2020, during which a total of 1.5 million PS4s were shipped. This is down from the 2.8 million in the same period last year, which is expected given the impending arrival of the PS5.
In terms of software, PS4 flogged 80.9 million games during the second quarter of FY 2020, which is an increase from the 70.6 million moved during the same time last year. Of these, 12.4 million were first-party games from Sony’s internal studios.
The PS4 was released nearly seven years ago on November 15 in the US and November 29 in the UK. The Japanese launch was notably moved to February 2014, which is unusual for a console launch to arrive so late in its native country.
