The PS5 Broke An 18-Year Old PlayStation 2 US Record For Most Consoles Sold In February In PlayStation’s History

All the way back in 2005, the PlayStation 2 had the best February that any PlayStation console ever had in the United States, and will have had, for the next 18 years.

That record ended when the PlayStation 5 sold more consoles last month than any other individual PlayStation console ever had in during the month of February in the US.

Recently reported NDP hardware sales numbers for the month of February 2023 have the PS5 at the top of the charts for both units sold and dollars spent.

It also beat sales for February 2022, though this new record-breaking height of sales can lead one to wonder as to whether or not Sony believe it will want to try and get away with a price increase in the US, like it has in other regions.

Of course the PS5 is still well off from reaching the heights of the PS2 currently holding the record for most consoles sold period. If it does get there, that’ll be an incredible feat.

Though with the way things are going, it looks like the Nintendo Switch will get there first.
