Zombie horror title The Walking Dead will not be released in Australia for consoles, Telltale Games has confirmed.
The mature-rated downloadable game, which comes in bite-sized episodic chunks, hit the EU and U.S. PlayStation Store earlier this week. However, it seems Aussie gamers are going to be out of luck.
Writing on the company’s official forums, a Telltale rep commented: “Sorry, but due to the OFLC ratings laws in Australia and New Zealand, and the fact that this is a mature game, we do not currently have plans to release the game there on consoles.”
It seems however that rather than being refused a rating, it appears that the game wasn’t submitted to the Australian Classification Board by Telltale at all.
For those unaware, videogames in Australia can currently only be rated as high as MA15+; any game considered unsuitable for that age group – or cannot be edited to meet the requirements for that rating – is subsequently banned from retail.
