CD Projekt RED has been generous with free updates to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which have included free missions, alternate costumes, new killing animations, and much more. Today, the final piece releases: New Game Plus mode.
The content, which has rolled out to Xbox One and PC and should hit PS4 soon, allows players to begin a new game while carrying over experience and items from their current playthrough.
Some rules apply: If Geralt is below level 30 at the game’s conclusion, he will be bumped up to 30 in the transition. If his level is 30 or above, he will start the new playthrough at that level. All items (including weapons, armor, and alchemy recipes) will carry over with the exception of quest items, usable items, Gwent cards, trophies, books, and letters. Enemies will present a greater challenge in general, but you can select any difficulty level. Finally, Geralt starts the game with a Clearing Potion that can be used to reset his skill points, opening the door for new character builds.
The Witcher 3 was already an exceptional game at release, and the 16 free DLCs that have been released in the months since have only sweetened the deal. If you haven’t gone back to play The Witcher 3 since its first couple weeks, there’s plenty of reasons to return, not the least being Patch 1.07, which introduced sorely needed inventory sorting and quality-of-life fixes.
