The Witcher 3 patch affects PS4 frame-rate, but not in the way you’d think

Eurogamer reports that the latest patch v1.07 for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt affects the frame-rate of the PS4 and Xbox One versions, and it’s not in the way that you’d hope.

The huge 7.3GB patch delivers a host of important changes and enhancements but according to tests carried out by Eurogamer it also negatively affects frame-rate, dropping by 8FPS and more during some sections.

The performance test concludes that frame-rates drop to 20fps during some of the more intense areas.

“With the new patch installed, the PS4 version doesn’t get off lightly either,” writes Eurogamer. “A route through the bog shows frame-rates lower than our original 1.05 test, where its lock at 20fps holds more consistently as we pass through the boggy thicket. On top of that, even traveling through simple countryside roads (or Novigrad’s central city) continues to produce single-frame stutters every few seconds – a rough point we had hoped would be ironed out by now. Overall, little has improved in PS4’s bid for a smooth 30fps reading here, and in fact, the tail-end of our Novigrad test shows dips to 25fps as we hit the marketplace – something not seen on the last patch.”

However, the latest Witcher 3 patch does include some impressive enhancements which still make it worth downloading. Geralt’s movement has been improved, sorting options are now available in the inventory and there’s dozens of fixes for quest-related issues.
