Digital Foundry has put The Witcher 3 PS5 update 4.02 through its paces, revealing the critically acclaimed fantasy-RPG from CD Projekt RED is now in the best shape it’s ever been in for current-generation consoles.
The pixel wizards discovered that The Witcher 3 Performance Mode is now able to lock at a buttery-smooth 60 FPS at most times, following tests duding combat and cutscenes. That’s not to say there isn’t a few drops; on PS5, busy areas like Novigrad put a bit of a strain on performance, but that’s only on rare occasions.
Meanwhile, the Ray Tracing Mode, which runs at 30 FPS, has also benefitted heavily from the latest patch. While there’s a few drops in frames, for the large part we’re looking at a locked 30 FPS.
The Witcher 3 Complete Edition was released for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in December 2022, although it’s only now that the game’s performance has seen some noticeable improvements. So, if you’ve been holding off getting it, now is the time to jump on board!
