The Witcher 3 revealed as next-gen RPG, teased for PlayStation 4

Ladies and gentlemen, the next generation of console gaming is almost here – and The Witcher 3 will be a part of it.

Announced moments ago as the subject of Game Informer’s March 2013 issue cover, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will see the return of supernatural assassin Geralt to a medieval fantasy world of political intrigue and deadly horrors. While no previous Witcher title has found its way to a PlayStation platform, CD Projekt RED has proclaimed that The Witcher 3 will launch in 2014 for PC and "all high-end platforms available."

The Polish studio’s chosen words could not be more telling. It’s presumptuous to call current-gen consoles "high-end", as there really is only one "end" to speak of. Furthermore, if The Witcher 3 were destined for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, why qualify this statement as only pertaining to consoles "available" in 2014? It’s completely unreasonable to entertain the notion that PS3 won’t be.

There’s only one reasonable conclusion here: The Witcher 3 is coming to PlayStation 4 in 2014.

What little we know about The Witcher 3 only supports this position: the game’s open world is reportedly 30 times larger than that of The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings. As Geralt, you will journey across this vast expanse, facing monstrous threats, political strife, and more intricate storylines than you’ll know what to do with.

We look forward to hearing more on the first confirmed next-gen RPG from Game Informer. In the meantime, sound off in the comments if you’re excited for The Witcher to make its PlayStation debut on a new console next year.
