Thief PS4 runs at 1080p, but dev says ‘you need good eyes to see the difference’

Square Enix has confirmed that the PlayStation 4 version of stealth title Thief runs at a native 1080p.

The Xbox One version, the studio added, is clocked at 900p. Both versions of the game will run at 30fps, however.

Speaking to Eurogamer, game director Nicolas Cantin observed, “You really need good eyes to see the difference,” and assured gamers that the Xbox One release “is as good as the PS4 version.”

"As developers, no," Cantin said, in response to whether the resolution makes much of a difference. "As engineers, yeah. The engineers, for sure. But for us, as creative director or art director or level designer, we gave the same data. After that it’s a more technological aspect of the game. The engineers have to manage that."

Thief is due out on current and next-generation consoles in the U.S. on February 25 and in Europe on February 28.

Originally announced as Thief 4 back in 2009, the game sees protagonist Garrett skulking around a victorian-inspired steampunk metropolis known as The City. Here, with the outbreak of plague ravaging the poor and the rich continuing to live in good fortune, the Master Thief aims to exploit the situation to fill his pockets with as many riches as possible.
