THQ pulls the plug on Red Faction

Brian Farrell, CEO of THQ, has confirmed that the publisher has given its Red Faction franchise the chop following lacklustre sales of the series’ latest entry, Armageddon.

Speaking during an investors call last night, Farrell commented, "We do not intend to carry forward with that franchise in any meaningful way.”

He further added that developer Volition has moved onto Guillermo del Toro’s forthcoming horror outing, inSane.

Red Faction debuted on PlayStation 2 back in 2001, and spawned a number of console-based sequels, including Red Faction II (2002), Red Faction: Guerrilla (2009) and, of course, Red Faction: Armageddon, which released earlier this year.

While initially starting out life as a first-person shooter, the series ultimately transitioned into the realms of a third-person actioner beginning with 2009’s Guerrilla.
