Gamepro brings news that EA Sports is set to expand its portfolio of popular sport’s franchises by creating three new games.
At the Electronic Arts’ Season Opener event, General Manager of Fighting and New IPs Dale Jackson confirmed that three brand new titles are in the making. One of them will be a soccer game which will be markedly different from the current FIFA games.
Knowing EA’s love for micro transactions, and its recent foray into the world of free-to-play games such as FIFA Online and Battlefield Heroes, it would come as no surprise in the slightest to see the same business model used for at least one of the titles.
Jackson didn’t confirm which other sports EA will be trying its hand at, but he did suggest that core gameplay may not be directly sports-related at all.
"My boundary is if I can loosely tie it to sports, I will," he said. "That boundary is really wide."
Whatever EA decides to do, we’re going to have to wait quite a while to find out. According to Jackson, an announcement won’t be made until next year. We wonder if EA Sport’s decision to create new sport’s franchises was spurred on by the release of the Bowling Bowl peripheral? You never know.
