Titanfall 2 blasting its way onto PS4 by the end of 2016

Titanfall 2 will launch on PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One before the end of 2016, Electronic Arts has confirmed.

Speaking during the publishing giant’s latest financial report, EA said that the sequel to the Xbox One and PC futuristic shooter will hit stores in fiscal Q3, putting it out between October and December 2016.

It’s worth noting that Battlefield 1, the World War I-based shooter revealed last Friday in London, is also scheduled for release in the same window, hitting stores on October 21.

"This is a giant category in our industry–[a] $4.5 billion category," commented EA boss Andrew Wilson. "There’s a very broad and diverse set of players who play games in that category who are looking to fulfill different gameplay motivations. Some people play very quick-play, or something with more strategic play; some people want both in different contexts.

"The result of that is that we feel we actually have a really strong position to deliver the broadest set of gameplay mechanics as it relates to [the] first-person shooter genre across the two titles and feel very confident that we are well-positioned to do very well in that category in the year. Certainly you see the reception around Battlefield 1; we feel very good about that. The energy around Titanfall 2 is also building very nicely. We look forward to showing you more of both of those titles at EA Play in June.”

Developed by Respawn Entertainment, the original Titanfall was released in March 2014 and revolves around players controlling free-running soldiers commanding agile, mech-style exoskeletons.

The game was a major exclusive for Microsoft when it launched, picking up positive reviews from critics and was reported to have sold around 10 million copies worldwide as of October 2015.
