Dark Horse Comics will release a new Tomb Raider comic early next year, which ties directly into the planned sequel to this year’s successful reboot.
Penned by Gail Simone, the comic will be released on February 26, 2014, and sees Lara Croft on a globetrotting adventure that will ultimately “lead directly into the sequel.”
Simone previously worked on the Wonder Woman, Deadpool and Batgirl franchises, and it comes as no surprise that she’s a big fan of Tomb Raider, too.
"The storytelling in the game hooked me instantly," she said. "The biggest difference is, the game told a claustrophobic story in an isolated setting. We are going globetrotting.
We start just a few weeks after the end of the game, and this is all in continuity, it will be Tomb Raider canon, and lead directly into the sequel. This is what got me excited; we get to be part of Lara Croft history."
The writer also confirmed she has been in contact with Tomb Raider scribe Rhianna Pratchett, and the pair has since become good friends.
Tomb Raider was developed by Crystal Dynamics and hit stores in March of this year. The game is an origins story of sorts, focusing on a younger, inexperienced Croft as she finds herself stranded on a mysterious Island off the coast of Japan.
The game eventually went on to sell 3.4 million copies worldwide. Be sure to read our review, and stay tuned to PSU.com for more information on the series as it becomes available.
