Top 5 E3 2016 Sony press conference announcements

What a night! We’re still buzzing after Sony’s E3 2016 press conference, so much so that some of us have been awake for over 24 hours. With all the announcements still fresh in our minds, we’ve been debating our top five moments from the conference, those “wow” moments that we’re still excited about many hours later.

Without further ado, here’s our top 5 announcements from Sony’s E3 2016 press conference.

1. God of War 4 (still to be officially named) revealed
Despite an earlier leak that Sony Santa Monica were about to drop a huge Kratos boulder on us during its conference, it didn’t lessen the impact of what was a stunning God of War 4 gameplay trailer. The PlayStation 4 exclusive title received a glorious 10-minute demo that followed an aged Kratos on a journey through a forest where they encounter the kind of hard-hitting, epic battles we expect from the series. Jaws were on the floor.

2. Insomniac Games are working on Spider-Man
Ratchet & Clank developer Insomniac Games finally revealed what they’ve been working on over the past few years with an action-packed teaser of the PS4 exclusive Spider-Man. Details were scarce, but with a studio behind it with a reputation as glowing as Insomniac we’ve left the Sony press conference in no doubt that this should be the best ever game featuring the famous Marvel superhero.

3. Kojima returns for Death Stranding
You can’t fail but to be excited about anything that Metal Gear legend Hideo Kojima is working on, so there’s no surprise that his new PS4 exclusive title, Death Stranding, got our juices flowing. Not only does it feature the brilliant Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), the emotional Death Stranding teaser trailer left us – in typical Kojima style – with more questions than answers. This is one game we cannot wait to hear more about. You dirty little tease you.

4. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard announced
With a demo available right now on PS4, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard was revealed to also be compatible with PlayStation VR. Can you imagine the horror? With a trailer based on Capcom’s Kitchen VR demo, there’s a suggestion that Capcom is looking to ramp up the fear factor in its latest Resi game, and we love nothing more than being scared out of minds! It’s going to be creepy, intense and a lot of fun when it’s released January 2017.

5. Sony Bend take us on a post-apocalypic adventure in Days Gone
Sony Bend’s Days Gone looks epic. The story-based trailer suggests that we can expect an emotional journey and plenty of action in this third-person, open world title. Set in a post-apocalyptic American wilderness, it looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun dispatching hordes of zombies. Think World War Z meets The Last of Us. Now that’s something to get excited about.

Honorable mention – Crash is back
They’ve teased us like crazy over the past year about a Crash Bandicoot making a return to its PlayStation roots. Finally, we have the news that Crash Bandicoot, Cortex Strikes Back and Warped will be launching on PS4 as glorious HD remasters. This will give new players who never experienced the Crash series the first time around the chance to find out what all the fuss is about, and allow Crash fans to relive some classic platforming moments from one of PlayStation’s greatest icons.
