Transistor launch trailer dazzles ahead of May 20 release

Transistor — the forthcoming release from Bastion developers Supergiant Games — has gotten a sumptuous debut trailer ahead of its eagerly-anticipated launch on May 20.

The PS4 and Steam-bound title from the minds of 2011’s runaway indie hit Bastion casts players in the feet of Red, a renowned singer who upon a botched assassination attempt is entrusted with a transistor-like weapon which harbours the consciousness and voice of a recently-deceased man who is wound up in the proceeding mystery; Red must use this newly-acquired weapon as the would-be assassins close in on her location within the confines of the game’s city, Cloudbank. Run-of-the-mill story, then.

The game deploys a turn-based-type gameplay mechanic, combining free movement and a ‘planning mode’; once the protagonist’s gauge is filled players can map out a specific set of movements which can executed with cunning speed – whilst the gauge refills Red must dodge the inevitable counterattacks on her position.

For all the Trophy hunters, the PS4 version of the game will feature a set of 30 Trophies, and the DualShock 4’s light bar will be used in conjunction with the game’s main weapon.
