PlayStation 3 sales in North America have spiked significantly following Tuesday’s price cut, retailers have confirmed.
Speaking to IndustryGamers, Target said it recorded an “immediate lift” in PS3 sales following the price cut, which followed hot on the heels of Nintendo’s decision to slash the price of 3DS last week.
"We have seen a significant acceleration in the sale of PlayStation 3 and the 3DS," said Tony Bartel, president of GameStop, during a chat with GI.biz.
Bartel was quick to note that retailers had expected a price drop for both platforms, though admitted “the 3DS [price cut] was somewhat larger than we had anticipated.”
Furthermore, he expects both price cuts to “spike demand” in the run up to the holiday season, resulting in healthier hardware sales for the remainder of the year.
