U.S. Supreme Court ruling prompted latest TOS changes, admits Sony

Sony has admitted that their recent decision to amend their PlayStation Network Terms of Service has been inspired the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that enabled AT&T to do the same.

Speaking with CNN, a spokeswoman for Sony state "The Supreme Court recently ruled in the AT&T case that language like this is enforceable," and went on to say "The updated language in the TOS is designed to benefit both the consumer and the company by ensuring that there is adequate time and procedures to resolve disputes."

If you haven’t read our recent report on this, these changes would strip the legal rights of those wanting to sue Sony in a class-action lawsuit. Instead, Sony will deal with disputes outside of the courts on a case-by-case basis, saving them some hefty lawyer fees.

According to GamaSutra however, you can opt out of this latest change, by sending a physical letter to Sony stating that you wish to opt-out of their latest TOS changes. This clause has apparently been put in place to silence those who would threaten to take these changes to court.
