Ubisoft Barcelona, one of the many studios that contributed to development of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, has seen 51 people lose their jobs, Insider Gaming reports.
The job losses were originally announced on June 10, with Insider Gaming noted that those who spoke with the site said that the layoffs felt premeditated and were set to happen regardless of how successful the launch of Black Flag Resynced proved. The reason for this is a result of Ubisoft assigning a new project to teams well before their current work is finished, sometimes up to 12 months in advance. The Barcelona team raised concerns about not being assigned to a new project back in Summer 2025, but were not assigned to anything new.
Furthermore, those familiar with the development of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced stated that it was highly successful as far as interest and preorders are concerned. Despite this, days after completing work on the project, the Assassin’s Creed Barcelona team was disbanded, with 51 people losing their jobs.
Sources also claimed that the launch event for the studio was cancelled and replaced by a small catering get-together at the company.
One employee told the site under condition of anonymity, “These layoffs coincide with the broader context of ongoing workplace issues. This is not an isolated event; it reflects a pattern of constant mistreatment, loss of talent, forced departures resulting from the erosion of workers’ rights, and an increasingly top-down management culture that leaves employees with little.”
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is now available for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. You can read our full verdict here.
