Starting this fiscal year, Ubisoft will no longer develop games for the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.
Speaking at yesterday’s earnings call, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that all titles, apart from the Just Dance series, will no longer be made for Sony and Microsoft’s last-generation consoles. That includes major franchises such as Rainbow Six and Assassin’s Creed.
“On Just Dance, we will continue to bring old-gen console versions. But on the other products like Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six, The Division, and the unannounced franchise, we will not have old-gen versions,” confirmed Guillemot, who also stated that Rainbow Six Siege ‘has the potential to become the highest-selling shooter in Ubisoft’s history."
Ubisoft currently has some major PS4 titles in the works, including Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Rainbow Six Siege and Tom Clancy’s The Division.
The lack of new titles on PS3 was to be expected as Sony has previously stated that PS3 support would continue throughout 2015, and only if developers continued to support it. With Ubisoft’s confirmation that it will no longer develop games for PS3, it seems likely that many other major publishers will follow.
